Information for doctors and patients
Hirslanden is Switzerland's largest private hospital group with 13 clinics around the country.  Radiotherapie Hirslanden operates at Klinik Hirslanden in Zurich and in nearby Aarau and is one of only a few radiotherapy institutes in Europe to offer the full range of treatments.
CyberKnife radiosurgery Zurich
Zurich CyberKnife®
CyberKnife® radiodurgery is not suitable for all patients, so Radiotherapie Hirslanden offers Trilogy® stereotactic radiotherapy as well.  This is another image-guided system which allows shaping of the beam to match more closely the shape of the selected target to provide more accurate treatments.
Trilogy stereotactic radiotherapy
Trilogy® treatment times are much shorter than with conventional radiotherapy, so patients no longer have to lie still for a long time.  It does not have the power and precision of CyberKnife® so treatment must still be spread over several weeks rather than a single day, but it can treat larger tumours.and a wider range of conditions.
Trilogy® stereotactic radiotherapy
Some patients face long delays in obtaining radiotherapy in their own countries, but Radiotherapie Hirslanden has three Trilogy® systems.  Appointments can usually be made within three days of enquiry and treatment can usually be commenced as soon as international patients can arrange to attend.
Breast cancer
Breast cancer cannot be treated with CyberKnife®. For patients having a lumpectomy the standard procedure is to deliver a course of daily radiotherapy over a period of a few weeks as a precautionary measure, to deal with any remaining tumour tissue in the area around the operation site.
Intrabeam radiotherapy
Intrabeam® radiotherapy
With the Intrabeam® photon radiotherapy system some breast cancer patients who are having a lumpectomy can now have single day targeted intraoperative radiotherapy.  This offers the least disruptive treatment method available to patients with early stage breast cancer.

Note: patients must enrol as part of an ongoing clinical trial and Intrabeam® is not suitable for all patients

Dr von Briel, radio-oncology
Radiotherapie Hirslanden offers CyberKnife® treatments for the brain, spine, prostate, pancreas, liver and lung and they are collaborating with the CyberKnife® centre in Nice (France), established by the French National Cancer Institute, to develop further treatments.
CyberKnife® treatments are carried out at Klinik Hirslanden in Zurich, the flagship hospital of the Hirslanden Group.  This is a major, full service hospital with scanning, individual intensive care units and a wide range of medical specialities on site.
As well as CyberKnife® radiodurgery, cancer patients benefit from advanced radiotherapy, brachytherapy, chemotherapy and da Vinci® minimally invasive robotic surgery.
This is inconvenient and disruptive both for the patient and for supporting relatives.  Also some degree of radiation burn to the skin is common, which can cause considerable distress.
Once your application has been submitted all correspondence will be between you (or your doctor) and Radiotherapie Hirslanden.  If your case looks potentially suitable they will ask you to submit scans and/or further information directly and they will send you the appropriate password for their system.  Alternatively they will tell you the address for posting your scans on a CD.
Please remember that Medilux Healthcare Ltd cannot advise on individual cases and we ask you to respect the decision of the CyberKnife® and other treatment centre(s) that you apply to through our service.
